Cornwall-based artist Abi Wason creates bold, emotive abstract paintings that explore the ungraspable and fleeting aspects of human experience. Her work is guided by emotion and intuition, with colour, gesture, and texture forming the foundation of each piece. Layering pigment sticks, acrylics, oils, and even sand collected from nearby beaches, Abi builds surfaces that feel alive with movement and energy. Her paintings invite viewers to connect personally, exploring memory, sensation, and the parts of ourselves beyond language.
We asked Abi: If someone is new to abstract art, what would you like them to know or consider when viewing your work?
“That the work is in their hands now. That I’d like for them to take their time whilst viewing it. Lean in to it and allow their mind to wander. Shift the focus from “What does this mean?” to “What does this mean to me?” It’s not about solving a puzzle-it’s about feeling your way through it.”
