Graham Gosling is a self-taught, multi-disciplinary contemporary abstract artist whose works explore the interplay of memory, experience, and perception. Born and raised in the UK, Graham has lived in Ireland for over two decades, where he continues to develop his distinctive practice.
At the heart of his work lies storytelling. Each piece carries a narrative that is never overtly revealed, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and discover their own connection to the work. His art balances minimalism with complexity, employing layered surfaces, subtle reflected colours, and delicate structures that reveal themselves gradually.
Graham’s practice is heavily influenced by Japanese aesthetics, shaped in part by a formative trip to Japan in 2023. This influence is particularly evident in his Kyujutsu series, which draws inspiration from his long-standing practice and teaching of Japanese archery. Using real archery targets as a foundation, each work transforms the physical marks of the arrows into multi-layered abstract compositions infused with depth, light, and shadow.
Alongside this, his Places of Me series reflects deeply personal connections to locations that hold significance in his life. These works, abstracted from memory, capture the essence of walls, rooms, or buildings, enhanced by semi-hidden planes of reflected light that draw the viewer closer.
Graham’s work has been exhibited widely across Ireland and the UK, featuring in both solo and group shows, as well as major art fairs. His art is held in the Irish State collection and numerous corporate and private collections. In addition to his studio practice, he has contributed to the arts community as a former Board Member and Chairperson of Circa art magazine in Dublin.
Currently based in New Ross, South East Ireland, Graham continues to expand his artistic journey. His upcoming exhibitions include The Other Art Fair in London (2025) and Art Source 2025 at the RDS in Dublin
