This artwork is a composition of both typographic art and a mix of hand made butterflies. The new series of artworks is a natural development on from the abstract colour inspired song titles of ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ and ‘Blue in Green’ in Daniel Byrne's previous music themed artworks.
The typography is rendered in powder blue acrylic paint and pinned off the surface giving the sense of the text floating amongst the butterflies. The butterflies dance and flutter within and around the song title.
"Laughin’ Like Children, Livin' Like Lovers" a lyric taken from one of Elton John's timeless hit ‘I Guess That's Why They Call it The Blues’. Reflecting the song's melancholic yet comforting undertones, this piece features a muted palette of digitally designed blue and white butterflies, printed to achieve a shimmering iridescence. The handcrafted butterflies form a playful, dynamic composition, clustering around bold 3D typography. They flutter across the surface of the canvas, congregating as if longing to escape the confines of the frame, before morphing into the silhouette of a singing figure. Penned by Bernie Taupin as a reassuring love letter to his wife, the song beautifully captures the bittersweet ache, longing, and devotion of a couple temporarily living apart.
The artwork pays tribute to Elton John’s legendary flamboyant style, incorporating sparkling rhinestones and metallic foil stars that inject life, movement, and a stunning extra dimension. Finally, hidden half-concealed within a cluster of butterflies, Elton’s famously distinctive glasses motif sits as a subtle, clever wink to the viewer.
'Laughin' Like' is part of an edition of five artworks, please note that whilst the text will be the same on each artwork the composition of the butterflies will always be different so no two editions will look the same.
